Gold Reef City Casino South Africa

Gaming Floor and Slot Machines

Here at Gold Reef City Casino in Johannesburg, we keep our gaming floor open daily from 12h00, with the Gaming Floor operating 24/7. You’ll find over 1,300 slot machines to choose from, with everything set up so you can play your way - low stakes or high. Denominations start at 1 cent and go up to R100. No coins or tokens are needed: thanks to Smart Gaming, which provides a completely coinless experience in a safe and convenient environment, simply insert your cash into the machine and credits appear instantly.

We have separate smoking and non-smoking gaming areas, so guests settle in wherever they’re comfortable. Growing jackpots on selected slots can really get hearts racing - several of these have returns reaching up to 98%, especially on low-denomination progressive machines. As you wander, you’ll spot live jackpot numbers up above, updating every few seconds.

Just walk in through the front, swap cash at the cashier or deal straight with the slots if you’ve got notes. Advance booking is usually not required for entry to the casino itself. Rewards members slip their card into the reader each time. Pick your bet, spin and, when you’re ready to cash out, use the voucher button right there. Printed slip in hand, swing past the cashier desk for your winnings, paid out in South African Rand (ZAR).

No more juggling coins or worrying about security - you can stroll between games with a voucher instead of a pocketful of change. Please note that entry to the gambling area is permitted only to persons 18 years of age or older.

Table Games and High-Roller Area

There’s real energy at our 51 table games. We offer American Roulette, three editions of Poker, classic and premium Blackjack, as well as Baccarat. Our experienced, highly trained dealers keep the pace lively and fair, strictly following South African casino rules. Each table displays its own minimum and maximum bets; it’s all right in front of you, so you know where you stand.

For those with a taste for higher stakes, Salon Privé is set aside as an exclusive area. Entry here requires a Rewards card and formal attire. Inside, guests find a lavish reception, lounge and a private gaming room with higher limits - plus, our team is ready with extra-personal service.

Chips can be bought right at the table or at the main cashier, completely your choice. Winnings are cashed out at the cashier desk when you’re finished.

Tsogo Rewards Programme

If you play here or at any casino in our network, the Rewards card has become a mainstay. Registration is simple: bring your ID to the Rewards desk and walk away with a card minutes later. Tiers range from entry up to premium, each offering points, parking deals, and more.

Parking fees? Non-cardholders pay R20, Ten Tier cardholders pay R10, and Jack, Queen, King and Ace Tier cardholders enjoy free parking.

Once your card’s active, just insert it into any slot reader before the first spin. Leave it in throughout your session to rack up points automatically. Rewards show up in real time - for most, that means offers, dining credits, promo deals, and sometimes casino upgrades.

Stay updated by checking the kiosks scattered around the floor or via messages we send when your status changes.

Entertainment Complex

Gold Reef City isn’t just about gaming. The casino sits within a larger entertainment hub built on the site of a former gold mine. This site closed as a working mine in 1971, but now you’ll find roller coasters, themed fun zones, live performances, and a decent mix of places to eat or stay. We see it: families and players all enjoying something in one place.

The property is presented as Gold Reef City Casino and Theme Park Johannesburg South under Tsogo Sun. The park’s rides celebrate Johannesburg’s gold rush heritage, while historical tours offer a glimpse into the city’s mining past. The Theme Park operates from Thursdays to Sundays, 09h00–17h00, and is closed Mondays to Wednesdays. The Apartheid Museum and Red Bus City Sightseeing Tours are also located on the premises.

Tsogo Sun owns and operates Gold Reef City alongside other prominent properties in South Africa.

Ownership and Portfolio

Gold Reef City falls under Tsogo Sun Gaming, which oversees 15 casino properties around South Africa. Our portfolio took shape in 2011, when Gold Reef Resorts merged with Tsogo Sun. That deal, valued at over 2.7 billion USD, consolidated several casino licenses under one umbrella.

Oversight and regulation comes from the Gauteng Gambling Board, which closely monitors compliance and responsible gaming in our region.

Contact and Access

Our main line is +27 11 248 5000, and we’re ready to help with casino queries and reservations. Theme park? That’s +27 11 248 6800. Want to book a mining tour? Call +27 11 248 6986.

We’re easy to reach using Gauteng’s main highways, and our parking areas handle both casino and theme park crowds. Rewards members enjoy discounted or complimentary parking, based on their tier status.

Questions on table bookings, Rewards perks, or the Salon Privé? Call the casino line above. We try to keep it all straightforward.

Smart Gaming Technology

The Smart Gaming system has changed how we operate slots: now, there’s no need to load coins or tokens. You insert banknotes (ZAR), and your balance is displayed digitally. Balance updates are immediate after each spin, so everything is transparent.

Want out? Hit the cashout, and you’ll receive a voucher with your remaining balance, redeemable at any cashier during that same gaming day.

Some machines link together in a progressive jackpot network, with live displays so you always know how much is up for grabs. When a jackpot lands, our team steps in promptly to check everything and process the payout by the book.

Low-stake slots generally return a higher percentage to players, up to 98% on certain progressive setups. Actual payback still can vary, but our selected machines highlight this clearly.

Entertainment and Amenities

Entertainment takes many forms at Gold Reef City. Beyond gaming, we host music events, live shows, and seasonal performances. Details are announced for Rewards members and listed on our website as schedules firm up.

When hunger strikes, guests can pick from fast food counters or sit-down restaurants. For group bookings, we recommend calling ahead. Otherwise, we do our best to seat everyone, with peak times sometimes busier.

If you’re staying, our hotel is directly on site. Many Rewards members use packages that bundle room nights with gaming or restaurant credits.

The theme park offers a variety of attractions, and details on hours and ticketing are available through our booking platform.
